In many younger relationships today, communication is often avoided the moment it feels heavy. Difficult conversations get labeled as “drama” or “too much.” Instead of leaning in, one person pulls back. Instead of working through it, they create distance, go quiet, or disappear altogether. But distance has a way of challenging that belief. Not the kind of distance measured in miles, but the kind that shows up quietly between conversations. The kind you don’t notice at first, until you realize one person is speaking and the other isn’t quite receiving it the same way. It doesn’t always come from a bad place. Sometimes it’s just difference. One person expresses openly, the other pulls back without meaning harm. One leans in, the other creates space.
